Deepika Padukone, along with her director Meghna Gulzar and co-star Vikrant Massey, launched the trailer of her upcoming film Chhapaak today. Producers Govind Sandhu and Vijay Singh were also present at the event. The film based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika plays Laxmi Agarwal who is named Malti in the film while Vikrant essays the role of her boyfriend. Today, at the trailer launch event, Deepika got extremely emotional after watching the trailer from the backstage. The actress was then called on to the stage where she broke down in tears.
"I had thought of this moment that you all will watch the trailer and then I will come on to the stage. But I didn't know I will have to say something," said Deepika as she broke down into tears. Meghna came to the actress' rescue as she said, "She has not seen it before so it's a little overwhelming"
Deepika wiped her tears and continued talking. The actress said, "I just want to say it's not often where you come across a story where you have to sit through an entire narration. Usually, you have to sit through an entire narration and decide if to want to do the film but for me, it was like Meghna just narrated 1 or 2 pages and I said yes, I am in. I am doing this."
