On Wednesday, the Supreme Court gave a pleasant surprise by rejecting the review petition filed by Akshay Singh Thakur, one of the death-row convicts in Nirbhaya rape and murder case that took place in 2012. A three-member bench headed by Justice Bhanumathi, comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna heard the case and the judgement was announced by afternoon. With the rejection of Akshay's review petition, the path for hanging all the four convicts in the horrendous crime is clear. Soon after the news broke out, Varun Dhawan, who was at the trailer launch of Street Dancer 3D, spoke about the case and the punishment. The actor told that the punishment should indeed be harsh and quick, considering the issue being of extreme and utmost importance. He added that the best part is that the nation here stands united.
"I think joh hua uske liye sakht se sakht saza sunayi jani chahiye aur jaldi. Yeh joh mudda hai voh bohot important hai desh mein. When we talk about these things, the problem doesn’t get solved quickly. Here we have to solve it quickly. Aur yeh joh baat hai voh bohot thes pohonchati hai sabko and we all want to do something. Aur ek khushi hai mujhe ki we all are united. We all feel that sakht se sakht saza milni chahiye aur jaldi milni chahiye. We all are praying," Varun told.

Talking about the Nirbhaya case, the heinous incident took place in Delhi when a 23-year-old female Jyoti Singh was beaten, gang raped and even tortured in a private bus. After 11 days of the incident, she was taken to a hospital in Singapore but unfortunately succumbed to multiple injuries within days.
