The Forbes India Celebrity 100 List is out. And Virat Kohli, the swashbuckling skipper of Team India, has emerged supreme in the No. 1 spot. Overthrowing Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who slipped down to No. 3. While Akshay Kumar has clawed his way to No. 2.
This is the eight year Forbes has been drawing up this list of Indian celebrities ranked according to the estimates of their earnings through their professions and endorsements and estimates of their fame. The 2019 list was drawn with data taken from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.
The earnings of the celebrities Forbes acquired from talent management agencies, film and TV production companies, music celebrity managers, sports consultants and marketing agencies or brand marketers. Fame of the celebrities was tracked from media visibility across print and their social media reach via Instagram. The rank is an aggregate of the estimated earnings and fame quotient.
Kohli reached the top position with earnings of 252.72 crore between October 1, 2018, and September 30, 2019 through match fees, his BCCI contract, brand endorsements and an eight-figure fee for every sponsored Instagram post. Akshay was pegged at No. 2 with 293.25 crore.
Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt made the Top 10 this year. Besides them, a third of the list includes women who are backed by earnings through lucrative brand endorsements and a high fame quotient. Disha Patani, Kriti Sanon and Sara Ali Khan debuted on the list because of this despite not having a large volume of work.
