I do have a dark side to myself, pushed boundaries of how much I can distort Deepika Padukone's face in 'Chhapaak': Meghna Gulzar

After delivering the critically and commercially successful Raazi with Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, Meghna Gulzar is back with yet another riveting tale but this time of an acid attack survivor. Titled Chhapaak, the film revolves around Malti played by Deepika Padukone who fights a legal battle for justice. Inspired by Laxmi Agarwal, a real-life acid attack survivor, the trailer of the film released a while ago and created a positive stir across the industry. And now, as Chhapaak is inching closer to its release date, Meghna has been keeping busy with back-to-back interviews. During one such interview, Meghna revealed that behind a happy and optimistic person that she is, a dark side is hidden. The filmmaker added that she discovered it while shooting for Talvar. She further stated that for Chhapaak, she pushed the boundaries with respect to the degree of distortion created on Deepika's face with the help of prosthetics and added that from the craft point of view, the storytelling is very straight forward.

"I do believe I have a dark side. I am a positive, happy and optimistic person. My earlier films have been bright, happy and soft and sentimental. But I realised with Talvar that I have a dark side because when you are staging shots of a father killing a daughter, you have to have a dark side to be able to execute that. When you are staging stuff Alia is doing in Raazi, you have to have a dark side to tap into to be able to do that. On Chhapaak, I kept pushing the limits of how much I can distort her face prosthetically. I kept pushing those boundaries. There is a fine balance between sugarcoating the reality and yet making it so graphic that the response is one of rejection. But I know I kept pushing the boundaries on it. I think on Chhapaak what we have done from the craft perspective, I have told the story very straight," Meghna told during the interaction.
