Ajay Devgn, of late, has been showing interest in telling the tale of eminent historical personalities through the medium of films. From playing the role of a Maratha warrior in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior to IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik in the upcoming film Bhuj: The Pride Of India based on 1971 Indo-Pak war, the actor is gearing up to educate the audience on figures who have contributed to the freedom and growth of India in the past. Similarly, Ajay will also be seen as the renowned Indian scholar, teacher and advisor, Chanakya in the film based on him. Titled Chanakya, the project was announced back in 2018 and was said to go on floors in October this year. However, the film got delayed. Talking about the delay and the film hitting the floors, Ajay, during an interview with a leading daily, told that Neeraj Pandey, who is directing Chanakya wants to be thorough with the facts before the film kicks off and hence it got pushed. He further added that the team is planning to start shooting from mid-2020.

"Everything got a little pushed. Chanakya is not a modern-day story, but a historical. We plan to start in mid-2020. Neeraj wants to be thorough before we begin shooting," Ajay told.

Speaking of Chanakya, he is also known as Kautilya and Vishnugupta. He is credited for the ancient Indian political treatise Arthashastra and was considered as a pioneer of the field of political science and economics in India. Chanakya helped establish the Mauryan Empire by assisting Chandragupta Maurya in his rise to power and served as the chief advisor to both Emperors Chandragupta and his son Bindusara. Many literary works, plays, films and television plays have already been made on the life and teachings of Chanakya and he remains one of the most enigmatic and popular figures of ancient India.
