Watch: Did you know Deepika Padukone's 'Chhapaak' was originally named 'Gandhak'? The actress answers

Deepika Padukone's and Vikrant Massey's Chhapaak has garnered the right amount of curiosity with its heartwarming trailer. Inspired by the story of Laxmi Agarwal who battled all odds and emerged as a winner, Chhapaak is one of the highly anticipated films of 2020. Now, as the film is inching closer to its release, the makers of this inspirational film that talks about a cause, held an event to launch its title song. During the event, Deepika, who plays the role of Malti in Chhapaak, was quizzed about the emotions behind the song and how it conveys the core message. 

In response to the question, Deepika revealed that Chhapaak was initially titled Gandhak. However, Meghna Gulzar, the director of the film, wanted the title to be incorporated in the main song. She further added that Meghna wanted the title song to be such that it strings together the core message and becomes the soul of the film. Deepika then told that initially, she didn't have faith in the title Chhapaak and now, Meghna's vision is clear in front of her.

Directed by Meghna, produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika’s KA Production, Meghna and Govind Singh Sandhu’s Mriga Films, written by Atika Chohan and Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is a tale of an acid attack survivor named Malti who battles against the social evildoers. The film is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020.
