Deepika Padukone expresses her opinion on the JNU violence, says she is scared of the 'painful' situation

Deepika Padukone, who was in Delhi to promote her upcoming film Chhapaak, paid a surprise visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) in the Capital to extend her support to the students and professors on protest with respect to the violence against them. The actress, on Tuesday evening, joined Kanhaiya Kumar at the protest march and also met Aishe Ghosh, President of Students Union who suffered multiple severe injuries owing to the violent attacks by a mob of unknown entrants. 

Talking about the ongoing JNU protests, Deepika, during an interview in Delhi, told how she said what had to be said when her film Padmaavat landed into trouble. The 34-year-old actress then added that she is pained to witness the situation in the country and hoped that this isn't the new normal where people are saying things and getting away with it. Deepika then told that the scenario scares her and is painful for her. While concluding, the Piku star said violence isn't the foundation of a great country.

Deepika, who stood by the students in the time of crisis, had the Twitterverse divided. While some hailed her to be a woman of steel, some called her visit a promotional stunt. Apart from Deepika, celebrities like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpayee, Nimrat Kaur, Taapsee Pannu and several others condemned the act of violence against students.
