Deepika Padukone, on Tuesday evening, paid a surprise visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) in the Capital to extend her support to the students and professors on protest with respect to the violence against them. The actress who was in Delhi to promote her upcoming film Chhapaak, joined Kanhaiya Kumar in the protest march and interacted with Aishe Ghosh, President of Students Union who suffered multiple severe injuries after a violent attack on her by a mob. Soon after pictures from her visit to JNU went viral, Twitterverse was clearly divided. While some supported the actress, some slammed her for making the visit a promotional stunt. However, amidst a bitter-sweet scenario on social media, Bollywood, without hesitating, extended its support to Deepika. Celebrities like Shabana Azmi, Anurag Kashyap, Vikrant Massey, Swara Bhasker, Pooja Bhatt, Richa Chadha and others applauded Deepika.
Shabana tweeted, "@deepikapadukone When she was attacked over Padmavat very few came forward to support her. She knows what it feels to be targetted and she has shown exemplary courage by supporting the JNU students with quiet grace, More power to Deepika Padukone."
