Depression has emerged as a major factor for mental illness and thankfully, now people are coming out in the open to talk about it and take treatments to combat it as well. Celebs like Deepika Padukone, Shaheen Bhatt, Sophie Turner and several others have openly spoken about depression and the toll it takes on lives enabling common people to feel empowered to talk about it and share their feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and devastation with their friends and family. Alia Bhatt’s sister Shaheen has even penned a book about her struggles with depression.
Recently, the Bhatt sisters made an appearance on The Tara Sharma Show along with their mother Soni Razdan where Shaheen once again spoke about her struggles. She even spoke about her suicide attempts in the recently released promos. Tara quizzed Shaheen about her thoughts before she attempted suicide. To this, she said that she was engulfed with a feeling of emptiness. She said, “I wasn’t thinking. I was just like, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t look out of the window for one more second and feel this empty.”

Alia and Soni emphasized that depression should be treated like any other illness. Soni said it is important for the parents to look out for the signs. She said, “What is very important to tell parents is that you have to look for signs. You have to know what they are and you have to look for them.”
Shaheen has written a book titled Never Been (Un)happier on her struggles with depression. She also frequently writes about the ailment and has started a help group for people who are suffering from it.
