Deepika Padukone, who wowed and won the hearts of the audience with her portrayal of Malti, an acid attack survivor in Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak, got enveloped around a grave controversy yet again. The actress, a couple of days ago, was slammed for turning her acid attack look into a makeup challenge on the social media app TikTok. Deepika, the video that went viral, asked a makeup artist to recreate her 'Chhapaak look' and moments later, the backlash began. While her fans and social media users aren't clearly happy with this video, Kangana Ranaut told that the 34-year-old star should apologise. Kangana who extended her support to Deepika as well as the film for bringing out an important topic, seemed disgusted with the TikTok video. The actress, during an interview with a leading daily, said that her sister, Rangoli Chandel, an acid attack survivor is hurt and the Piku actress should apologise to all those out there for the insensitivity.
"My sister was very hurt with that video. I am sure Deepika must have an explanation for that why and how, what circumstances, because sometimes marketing teams plan things in a way and we don’t have time to go exactly into the depths of that. But people who are hurt with this, like my sister, must be apologised to and it's not a make-up look and nobody should try and achieve it with make-up products. That kind of insensitivity should be apologised for and there is no harm in doing that. We all make mistakes, don’t we? We are all humans, but what is important is that you redeem yourself and apologise," Kangana told.
Deepika landed into troubled waters after her sudden visit to JNU before Chhapaak's release. Moments later, chants of Boycott Chhapaak ruled social media. Reportedly, as a result of a public outcry, the actress became a subject of hatred. The film was directed by Meghna Gulzar and released on January 10, 2020. It revolved around an acid attack survivor who fought all odds for justice and awareness.
