Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Adnan Sami conferred Padma Shri 2020 for their contribution to the field of performing arts

The Padma Shri awardees have been announced and making the cut from the entertainment industry are Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Adnan Sami. They have been conferred with the Padma Shri for their contribution to the field of performing arts. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. It is awarded by the Government of India, every year on India's Republic Day.

Karan expressed his excitement and wrote, “It’s not very often that I’m at a loss for words, but this is one such occasion... The PadmaShri. Such an honour to receive one of the highest civilian awards in the country. Overwhelmed by so many emotions right now.  Humbled, elated and also thankful for the opportunity to live my dream everyday, to create and to entertain. I know my father would be proud and I wish he was here to share this moment with me. #blessed”

Talking about being honored with the Padma Shri Kangana said, “I’m humbled and I’m honored. I thank my country for this recognition and I dedicate this to every woman who dares to dream. To every daughter... to every mother... and to the dreams of women who will shape the future of our country." 

Kangana, who is reaping accolades for her latest release Panga was congratulated for this feat by her director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari who said, “There are very few humans who have the ability to be visionaries not for just themselves but also for others. Kangana has risen on her own through her dedication and hard work despite many challenges and limited support. This recognition empowers many more women of our beloved country to walk their own chosen path fearlessly”

Ekta Kapoor also expressed her overwhelming happiness on being conferred the honour and she took to her social media to issue a statement.

Adnan Sami also expressed his gratitude towards the Government of India who recognized his contribution towards art and cinema.
