Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film Love Aaj Kal shows love stories of two different eras -— the first is set in the late 1980s–early nineties, and unfolds between Raghu and Leena. The other love story, set in present time, happens between Veer and Zoe. While Kartik Aaryan plays Raghu and Veer, Sara Ali Khan has been cast as Zoe and Arushi Sharma plays Leena. However, more than the film, it is Kartik's and Sara's off screen chemistry that has caught everyone's attention.
When Sara was asked about it during an interview, she quipped, “I don’t think I’ve worked with Kartik (Aaryan), it was Veer I met on the sets of the film. I don’t think Sara and Kartik have ever hung out together, they were Zoe and Veer.” When asked if she would like to collaborate with him again, Sara quickly mentioned, “Yeah, I mean somebody…” only to immediately say next, “No, no, let’s not put it out there." She went on to explain, "Everything I say is to be taken with a pinch of salt because sometimes I say things just for effect.”
While Sara may deny seeing Kartik at one time, it cannot be ruled out that she had visited Kartik in Lucknow when he was there filming Pati Patni Aur Woh, while he had flown down to Bangkok when she was shooting Coolie No 1 to surprise her on her birthday.
Meanwhile, as their first project together deal with love in different eras, Sara was prodded about the difference she feels, to which she said, “The language and expression of love have changed, but as an idealistic 24-year-old girl, I want to believe that the ethos is still the same.” Last but not the least, she admitted that she has a few things in common with her character Zoe but not all. “Personally, I am not a hook-up kind of person. It takes a lot to get me worked-up. Zoe is the opposite, she loses her cool easily. She can say, ‘F**k you, a**hole,’ without flinching, and doesn’t mind casual relationships,” she signed off by saying.
The film is slated to release on February 14.
