The trailer of Taapsee Pannu's upcoming film Thappad not just sent a wave across the nation but also marked the beginning of a detailed conversation that slapping the woman isn't itni si baat. The trailer, while shaking the foundations of male chauvinist films, brought to fore the topic of domestic violence and unequal treatment towards women in the country. Now, as Thappad is a few weeks away from its theatrical release, the Anubhav Sinha directorial has found yet another supporter in Minister in the Union Cabinet of India Smriti Irani. The actress-turned politician gave a big shout-out to Thappad on her social media platforms.
Smriti, in an Instagram post, shared the trailer of Thappad and penned a long note, extending support to the though-provoking multi-tale film. She mentioned that she will definitely watch it and urged others to do so.
Taapsee, on this shout-out from Smriti, spoke to an entertainment portal. She reacted to the Union Minister's kind words and expressed pleasure. Taapsee further added that the team will be pleased to show her the film. She concluded by stating that although the two possess different political ideologies, they connect on this issue. "I am extremely pleased to know she likes the trailer and would want to watch the film. It will be a pleasure for the entire team to show her the film. I am happy we all connect on this issue," Taapsee told.
Thappad, apart from Taapsee, stars Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Geetika Vidya, Maya Sarao, Naila Grewal, Kumud Mishra and Gracy Goswami in the lead roles. Thappad is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series along with Anubhav and Benaras Mediaworks. It is scheduled to release on February 28, 2020.
