We were discussing a meme: Kartik Aaryan clarifies his ‘women with defects’ comment

Kartik Aaryan is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Love Aaj Kal with co-star Sara Ali Khan. He has been giving interviews as well as attending promotional events. In one such interview, he had a foot-in-the-mouth situation for which he was trolled mercilessly. During the interview, he was asked about comparisons with Ayushmann Khurrana. Replying that their films are based on different ideologies, he said that Ayushmann does films about men with defects while he does films about women with defects.

His statement did not go down too well with the netizens who called him out. He was slammed by the netizens who called him ‘misogyny ka brand ambassador’. Now, the actor has opened up about the whole fiasco to a leading daily and said that he was quoted out of context. He said, “We were discussing a meme where there were some things written and I too reacted on it by saying that I too have stumbled upon it.”

He further defended his statement and said, “We sometimes tend to take things out of proportion. I do not believe in such things and it was just a light moment. We just read what was written on it and not comment on it.”

Earlier also Kartik had earned the ire of netizens for cracking a joke on marital rape in the trailer of his film Pati, Patni Aur Woh that was subsequently edited out later on. The film also starred Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in the lead.
