Can only guess that they’re using the title to get a big weekend: Shekhar Kapur claims he has no clue about Ali Abbas Zafar's 'Mr India 2'

Shekhar Kapur gave Hindi Cinema one of its most memorable and enjoyable films in the form of the 1987 classic, Mr. India. It narrated the story of a poor man (Anil) who gives shelter to orphans. After he accidentally discovers his late scientist father's invisibility device, he uses it to save his children and all of India from the clutches of the villain Mogambo, played with iconic aplomb by the late Amrish Puri.

While the remake of the film has been in talks for long, it was announced yesterday that Ali Abbas Zafar, who has helmed blockbusters like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, will write and direct the new Mr. India. Although he has clarified that the project clarified that it is not a sequel or a remake of the 1987 classic film but rather a reimagination of the original, it seems Shekhar is not happy with the announcement. He criticised the makers, claiming no one has even ‘mentioned’ the film to him.

In reponse to a tweet, Shekhar wrote on the social media platform, “No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr India 2. I can only guess that they using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters/story without permission from the original creators of the film." Well, we wonder what Ali has to say on this!

Meanwhile, Ali had claimed that casting is yet to begin but early reports suggest that he is in advanced talks with Ranveer Singh, who has loved the subject and is excited to step into the iconic shoes of Anil Kapoor from the original. Let's wait and watch for this one!
