Namaste Trump: US President Donald Trump showers praise on Bollywood, says people love Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘DDLJ’ and ‘Sholay’

US President Donald Trump is on his maiden visit to India with First Lady Melania Trump. His procession took a halt at Sabarmati Ashram where he addressed the crowd present at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Namaste Trump event is in lieu of extending friendly relations between the two nations. Trump has come to India with a 12-member delegation that also includes his daughter Ivanka Trump. His speech received a roaring welcome at the Motera Stadium especially because it was interspersed with names of Shah Rukh Khan, DDLJ, Sholay and Sachin Tendulkar. 

In his speech, Trump spoke about Bollywood fever taking over all parts of the globe. He sais that people worldwide love watching Bollywood films like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajor starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and also Amitabh Bachchan’s, Dharmendra’s and Hema Malini’s iconic film Sholay. He also mentioned the popularity of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

He said, “India is a creative hub that creates over 2000 movies from Bollywood a year. All over the planet people take great joy in watching Bollywood films, bhangra, and classic films like DDLJ and Sholay. You cheer on great cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli."

The two days Namaste Trump event will see the President visit Delhi and Agra after Ahmedabad. After being welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhaven and top business tycoons in a CEO round-table at the US embassy.
