Taapsee Pannu, after a successful year at the box-office with Badla and Saand Ki Aankh in 2019, is back with yet another hard-hitting and thought-provoking tale with Anubhav Sinha's Thappad. The film which is a tight slap on regressive societal norms, has indeed found immense support from the audience. While fans and the audience are going gaga over the genre and nature of the film, certain groups on social media platforms seem to not fancy this Taapsee starrer. So much so that they invented the slogan of 'Boycott Thappad' on various platforms. Now, as Thappad has finally released in theatres, Taapsee, in an interview with a leading daily, addressed the trend. The 32-year-old actress told that she finds it stupid that people base their film choices on the socio-political ideologies of actors.
“I think personal opinions of actors should not affect their profession and I don’t really think it does to an extent. It takes about 1000-2000 tweets to trend a certain hashtag. Does that really affect a film? I don’t think so. I might have different social and political views from a lot of people but that does not mean people will not go and watch the film. An actor is never bigger than a film. A film has hundreds of people involved in it. It is stupid to decide whether or not you will watch a movie based on an actor’s socio-political views,” Taapsee told.
Thappad also stars Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Geetika Vidya, Maya Sarao, Naila Grewal, Kumud Mishra and Gracy Goswami. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series along with Anubhav and Benaras Mediaworks. The film released today (February 28, 2020).
