In a little over four minutes, filmmaker Rohit Shetty lets it be known that Veer Sooryavanshi, the latest uniformed entrant into his hallowed cop universe, will brook no nonsense from terrorists and anti-nationals. And he declares war on all enemies of the state in this action drama by Reliance Entertainment, Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Rohit Shetty Picturez that releases on March 24.
The thrilling trailer to Sooryavanshi that was just brought out with much fanfare and ceremony this morning, also reveals that joining Akshay Kumar as the lean, mean and unforgiving Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Veer Sooryavanshi in the gun-blazing and gritty climax are two other cops who earned their stripes in earlier Rohit Shetty cop universe extravaganzas.
Ajay (Singham) Devgn and Ranveer (Simmba) Singh burst into the picture in a blaze of action with the triumphant title music from their respective films playing in the background. These are paisa vasool, seeti-bajao moments in Hindi cinema. And the audience invited to PVR cinema for the trailer launch responded with thunderous applause. To get Akshay, Ajay and Ranveer in one action frame is better than watching any of Hollywood’s superhero Avenger movies.
It’s a Rohit Shetty film. So the hardcore action, the thrilling car and bike chases, the daredevil helicopter stunts, are of the kind that would make the choreographers of the Fast & Furious, Mission Impossible and James Bond franchises gasp in envy and wonder. The filmmaker knows no fear himself as he amply demonstrates on TV in the Khatron Ke Khiladi series. And he urges his action superstars to spare nobody and nothing in his magnificent effort to give Bollywood yet another cop universe thriller that has swag, sass and sexy humour.
Sooryavanshi was always the film to look forward to in 2020. Now after seeing the trailer you understand why this is the most anticipated film of the year. It packs a powerful Hindu-Muslim unity punch of patriotism that comes at a time when the country is simmering with communal discord. And you never felt prouder for the men in khaki than when seeing the trailer. But it’s not action all the way. Veer Sooryavanshi, which has Akshay in a mature, grey avatar, also finds time for family, romance and a sizzling dance in the rain. Come in Katrina Kaif, you too never looked as deadly as when straddling Sooryavanshi on his sports bike.
