Wary of Coronavirus, organizers cancel Zee Cine Awards 2020 for general public

As the total number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in India rise to 74, the health ministry on Thursday asked people not to panic, saying the focus is on preventive approach and there are adequate facilities available for testing. Now, owing to the scare the Zee Cine Awards 2020 stands cancelled for the general public. The awards show will telecast on March 28, 2020 and will be shot today in Mumbai. 

A statement issued by Zee TV and Zee Cinema read, "As a measure of precaution on account of the continuing concern over the Covid-19, the ceremony for Zee’s annual film awards property - Zee Cine Awards 2020 stands cancelled for general public to avoid mass gatherings. Instead, the awards will now be shot as a televised event. We would like to assure the fans who had purchased tickets for the event through our associates and partners that they will be refunded at the earliest. Our viewers and fans can now look forward to catching their favourite Bollywood celebrities during the telecast on March 28 on Zee TV and Zee Cinema. Additionally, viewers can also catch these awards before tv on Zee5."

Meanwhile, the IIFA Awards, which was supposed to be held in Bhopal in the month of March, has also been postponed to a later date.

Coronavirus or Covid-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO on Thursday after which PM Modi tweeted, "Say No to Panic, Say Yes to Precautions. No Minister of the Central Government will travel abroad in the upcoming days. I urge our countrymen to also avoid non-essential travel. We can break the chain of spread and ensure safety of all by avoiding large gatherings."
