Twinkle Khanna and her more often than not sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek humour finds its way to maintstream news headlines. While the entire world is grappling under the Coronavirus outbreak and India is taking necessary precautions to curtail the infection, she took a dig at her own film Mela while commenting on the recent controversy regarding the Ayodhya Mela amid COVID-19 scare.
The author and former actress was commenting on a tweet that said going ahead with the Ayodhya Mela will put millions under the health risk of coronavirus pandemic. Retweeting RamchandraGuha’s tweet about how Ayodhya Mela’s organization is to trifle with health of millions of Indians she wrote, “Melas, by and large, can be hazardous to health- I would know :)”

In her tweet, Twinkle was referring to her 200 film Mela that starred Aamir Khan and his brother Faisal Khan opposite her. The film was a colossal disappointment at the box office and led to Twinkle’s exit from Bollywood. It was after the debacle of Mela that Twinkle quit acting and married Akshay Kumar and built a successful interior decoration business, post which she turned a bestselling author and columnist.
Twinkle’s tweet was in the wake of UP Government’s decision to go ahead with the Ram Navami mela even as the Indian government is putting up strict orders of social distancing and self-isolation. Last evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation urged citizens to take utmost precaution and hold a ‘Junta Curfew’ on March 22 that was seconded by Akshay as well as Twinkle.
