Another jolt to Bollywood BO business! In the wake of Coronavirus, theatres in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji to remain shut till May 2020

The sudden outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus aka COVID-19 has brought the whole world to a standstill. With the number of infected increasing at an alarming rate, theatres all across the globe are shutting down to curb the virus' spread. Now, in the latest update, cinema houses in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji will remain closed for eight weeks that is till May 2020. Theatre companies like Event Cinema, Village and Hoyts are also amongst those who decided who remain shut.

Taran Adarsh, a renowned trade analyst, on Monday, on his Instagram, shared the press release that was issued by the cinema owners. The theatres will shut its doors from today and will open in May. "ALL theatres [Event, Village] shut for 8 weeks *till May-end* 2020 in #Australia, #NZ, #Fiji... NO new release in that region *till May-end*... Hoyts shut too," Taran wrote.

Well, with Australia, New Zealand and Fiji being a market for top Bollywood releases till May, it remains uncertain whether producers of films like Sooryavanshi, '83, Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Laxmmi Bomb and Coolie No. 1 will shift their opening to a further date.

Speaking of India, the Government has instructed theatres to remain closed till March 31. However, in case the situation doesn't come under control, the deadline will be extended further. As of now, the State Governments in Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and others have announced a complete lockdown till further notice.
