Ram Gopal Varma says he tested positive for coronavirus, later calls it April Fool’s joke and apologises

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma created a stir on social media after he took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and revealed that he has tested positive for coronavirus. Expectedly so, the netizens went into panic mode and why not? The dark times that out country is battling against this deadly virus is making everyone worrisome. In his tweet, he mentioned that his doctor has just told him that he is tested positive.

However, to everyone's surprise, RGV's tweet was nothing but a joke and he called it an April Fool's Day prank. In fact, some netizens guessed it so as he is known for insensitive tweets and many even ‘congratulated’ him for being tested positive. He tried to save himself by saying that it is his ‘doctor’s fault and not his’.

Later, after facing social media flak, RGV mentioned that he is ‘trying to make light of a grim situation’. He tweeted, “Anyway I am just trying to make light of a grim situation but the joke is on me and if I dint offend anyone I sincerely apologise to them.”

As of April 1, India has recorded over 1,637 cases of coronavirus.
