Taapsee Pannu kickstarted her new year at the box-office with a powerful and hard-hitting film titled Thappad. The Anubhav Sinha directorial not just fetched appreciation from critics but the audience too. Surpassing all predictions, Taapsee's Thappad that orbited around shattering age-old norms set for women, was a true winner. Now, as the film recently completed a month since release, Taapsee, in an interview with a leading daily, spoke about its overall success. The actress who has never shied away from speaking her mind and is on the forefront of women-centric films, told that nobody in the team felt Thappad will surpass or even match the collection of strong projects like Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak and Kangana Ranaut's Panga. Given the fact that the actresses are known for their commendable body of work, Taapsee felt it is a huge validation for those involved in making Thappad.
"Deepika and Kangana whose women-centric films, Chhapaak and Panga, released this year are big names. We never thought that Thappad would match or surpass their collections, more so since films on acid attack survivors and a mother reviving her career don’t divide the audience. It is a huge validation for everyone involved," Taapsee told.
Thappad apart from Taapsee starred Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Geetika Vidya, Maya Sarao, Naila Grewal, Kumud Mishra and Gracy Goswami. It was produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series along with Anubhav and Benaras Mediaworks. The film released on February 28, 2020. Deepika's Chhapaak, based on an acid-attack survivor, was directed by Meghna Gulzar. It released on January 10, 2020. Kangana's Panga directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari orbited around a mother who makes a comeback in kabaddi. The film released on January 24, 2020.
