Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's and Abhishek Bachchan's Delhi-6 holds a special place in the history of cinema, all thanks to an array of great songs including the iconic Masakali. Picturised on Sonam and a white pigeon that belongs to the breed 'Masakali', this A R Rahman composition can never fade away from minds. Now, a decade later, Masakali has been recreated in the form of a music video with Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria in the lead. While the song has garnered a mixed response, bending slightly towards the negative side, the original composer also seems to be miffed with the idea of recreating the popular number.
A R Rahman, yesterday after Masakali 2.0 was released on video streaming platforms, reacted to the recreation and took a sharp dig at the song by issuing a statement on social media. Asking people to rather enjoy the original, the ace composer-singer stated the process and effort that goes behind creating a song that is remembered for decades together. “No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a Director, a Composer and a Lyricist supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew.” - Lots of love and prayers A.R. Rahman,” A R Rahman wrote in his statement.

Masakali, the original, was sung by Mohit Chauhan and the lyrics were by Prasoon Joshi. The recreated version with Sidharth-Tara is composed by Tanishk Bagchi, sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon. Diametrically opposite of the original, Masakali 2.0 revolves around a couple who sneak into a luxurious hotel room on a rainy day. They spend some time alone and dance while enjoying the lavish amenities until they get caught.
