After PM-CARES Fund, Akshay Kumar quietly contributes Rs. 3 crores to BMC to assist in the production of Personal Protective Equipment

The world is currently battling deadly Coronavirus. Declared a pandemic, the novel COVID-19 has disrupted lives all across the world. While India also fights against the virus, it is becoming an uphill task to meet the demand for essential commodities including the production of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers. With a massive rise in the number of positive cases, especially in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is racing ahead to multiple the production of PPE. Grateful for the efforts that authorities are taking for the safety of the city, Akshay Kumar extended his helping hand by contributing Rs. 3 crores to BMC for PPE, a leading daily reported. As per sources, the superstar, without making it public, made the donation to meet its increasing demand. 

"Through his social media videos, Akshay has been creating awareness about social distancing and the need to stay home. When it came to his notice that India, like other countries, is racing to produce PPE to meet the rising demand, he pitched in financial support," a source close to the development told the daily.

Confirming Akshay's contribution, BMC joint municipal commissioner Ashutosh Salil told the daily that the money he gave will be used for the production of masks, gloves, rapid testing kits and PPE. "A few days ago, Mr. Kumar got in touch with the BMC commissioner and made the donation. We are happy that the actor is doing his bit. We have been ensuring that funds don't get stuck in multiple procedures as we can't afford delays. The money donated by him will go into the general fund that will be used for the production of PPE, masks, gloves and rapid testing kits," Ashutosh told the daily.

In the wake of the Coronavirus crisis, Akshay contributed Rs. 25 crores from his savings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's PM-CARES fund. "This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai," wrote Akshay while pledging his support.

Along with this, the superstar is leaving no stone unturned to spread awareness regarding Coronavirus among fans and followers via social media.
