Sidharth Malhotra addresses the criticism against 'Masakali 2.0', says, 'it is completely valid'

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's and Abhishek Bachchan's Delhi-6 holds a special place in the history of cinema, all thanks to an array of great songs including the iconic Masakali. Picturised on Sonam and a white pigeon that belongs to the breed 'Masakali', this A R Rahman composition can never fade away from minds. Now, a decade later, Masakali has been recreated in the form of a music video with Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria in the lead. However, unlike popular remixes in the recent past, Masakali 2.0 has been facing a severe backlash. Not just social media users, but the team behind making the original song has criticised it too. While the trolling continues, Sidharth, during an interview, addressed the backlash. The actor told that a person can't be blamed for the public's disapproval. He further added that his recreations of songs like Kaala Chashmah and Ladki Beautiful Kar Gayi Chul have worked well in the past.

"The song happened vis-a-vis a movie Marjaavaan as a promotional song at that time. It's easy for people to say...I mean, obviously everyone's to blame as a team but I have done remakes in the past whether it's Kaala Chashma or Chul. They have all been recreations and have worked really well in the past. There was no conversation of whether I endorse it, not endorse it, whether they are good or bad," Sidharth told.

When asked Sidharth about understanding the point of criticism considering the popularity of Masakali, he spoke about his viewpoint as an actor. He told that if someone remade his film distastefully, it would annoy him. The Kapoor & Sons actor said that the criticism is valid and felt that the trend of remixes is slowing dying. Stating that brand new songs excite him more, Sidharth agreed that the audience no longer has the patience to listen to recreated editions of iconic songs.

"I keep thinking it from an actor's point of view. If somebody had to remake a film that I have been a part of and it's not done with utmost taste or to someone's satisfaction, of course, it can be annoying. So, I think in that sense yes, it's completely valid. But, as I said I have had songs which have worked. My biggest hit, Kaala Chashma is a recreation, which is one of the biggest songs that we had. Disco Deewane (from debut film Student of the Year) was a remix as well and was a massive hit. But, I think the trend his dying though, to be honest. I don't think the audience has the patience and they are not excited by the fact that we are not really creating new melodies. And as an audience, as a listener, I completely agree. As an actor as well, I would get far more excited about a brand new song," Sidharth added.

Masakali, the original, was sung by Mohit Chauhan and the lyrics were by Prasoon Joshi. The recreated version with Sidharth-Tara is composed by Tanishk Bagchi, sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon. It released on April 8.
