Coronavirus Lockdown Effect: Kangana Ranaut's action-thriller 'Dhaakad' to likely miss its Diwali 2020 release

The Coronavirus outbreak all over the world has caused havoc. Declared as a pandemic, the novel COVID-19 has affected several businesses and industries. With the lockdown that the Government of India imposed to curb the impact of the virus, films that were lined up to release, as well as shoots for new projects, have been pushed ahead indefinitely. While the lockdown will be likely lifted on May 3, it is still uncertain whether permission for taking fresh ventures on the floors will be granted. As a number of big-budget films are missing their scheduled release deadline, Kangana Ranaut's upcoming action-thriller titled Dhaakad also seems to follow the suit, might forgo its Diwali 2020 opening. The producer of the film, Sohail Makhlai, during an interview with an entertainment portal, told that the team was preparing for its first major shoot schedule this month. Owing to the sudden lockdown, the makers then planned it for July. However, Sohail still doubts the chances of execution of the sketched-out timeline.

Dhaakad was to have its first major schedule in April. Obviously that got mowed down by the virus. We had then planned for July because Kangana’s shooting for her Jayalalitha biopic got postponed from July. Now, I don’t see even that happening. I seriously doubt we can start shooting in July," Sohail told.

Talking about Dhaakad's release, Sohail said before the Coronavirus hit the country, the team has planned the schedule so as to meet the Diwali release. Now, there is no concrete road-map ahead of them. Sohail went on to assure that despite the delay, Dhaakad will be a treat for Kangana fans and will elevate her career to the next level. “Yes, we had announced a Diwali release. We had all the schedules worked out. But the virus has hit the entire entertainment industry. Nobody has a map for the road ahead. My director Razneesh Ghai is a high-profile name in the ad world. He has made three ads with Kangana and she shares a wonderful rapport with him. Our script for Kangana is sure to take her to the next level,” Sohail said.

“We all excited about Dhaakad. But there is no clarity right now about when it would go on the floors. When we put out the poster little did we know what was in store. In Mumbai, cinema seems like a very low priority right now. First, we need to survive this crisis. Then we’ll see. Once shooting is resumed we’ll plunge into Dhaakad,” the producer added.
