AR Rahman recalls how Danny Boyle praised 'Slumdog Millionaire' music, quips 'worked hard for other films too but got stepmotherly treatment'

Renowned music composer AR Rahman recently interacted with Alastair Adam Lloyd Webber from his Chennai home and during that, he challenged his father music composer Andrew Lloyd Weber and singer Nicole Scherzinger to sing his original Oscar-winning composition Jai Ho. 

He further went on to reveal how Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle had called him from the Toronto Film Festival after getting positive response for the film's music. “It’s also because Danny doesn’t use music like wallpaper. I’ve worked so hard for other films too but it got drowned... It was given stepmotherly treatment," as quoted by a a leading daily. He also compared the fil's recording days to the ongoing lockdown as he was at his London studio while MIA and Alka Yagnik recorded the song in New York and Mumbai respectively.

Not just that, he also talked about the kind of effort that goes into the making of a song. For the unversed, Rahman Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and lyricist Prasoon Joshi claimed that they were not happy with a new recreated version of their 2009 gem, Masakali. The duo had created the song for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film Delhi-6.  Without mentioning the name of Masakali 2.0, Rahman tweeted, "No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the main aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a Director, a Composer, and a Lyric supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew." Along with it, Rahman shared a link of the original song, which makes it obvious what he is referring to.

Masakali 2.0 is sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon, with music by Tanishk Bagchi. The song is picturised on Tara Sutaria and Sidharth Malhotra.
