The Coronavirus pandemic outbreak has caused havoc all over the world. With India being one of the severely infected countries, the Government imposed a lockdown. Now, a month into the lockdown, major industries are affected and so is Bollywood. Given the adverse condition, theatres in the country shut down before the nation-wide curfew-like situation came into effect. Due to this, big-budget releases like Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif, Kabir Khan's Ranveer Singh starrer '83, Janhvi Kapoor's Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl along with Varun Dhawan's and Sara Ali Khan's Coolie No. 1 are pushed ahead indefinitely. While it isn't certain that when theatres will be opened for the public, the makers are now in a 'wait and watch' situation.
Talking about the lockdown and Coolie No. 1's release, Varun, during an Instagram chat with fans on the occasion of his 33rd birthday, hoped that it releases in theatres and the audience enjoys it thoroughly. “Coolie No. 1 was supposed to release a week from now. We all are dealing with this, I do wish the film releases. I wanted to put out something of Coolie but they stopped me," Varun told.
Coolie No. 1 is directed by Varun's father David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh. Apart from Sara and Varun, Coolie No. 1 features Paresh Rawal, Shikha Talsania, Johnny Lever, Jaaved Jaaferi and Rajpal Yadav in important roles. The film was scheduled to release on May 1.
