Arjun Kapoor made an extremely promising debut with Yash Raj Films' Ishaqzaade in 2012. The film that also starred Parineeti Chopra won commercial as well as critical appreciation and one couldn't wait to watch the actor deliver blockbusters. However, Arjun's films in the past few years failed to strike the right chord with the audience. Not just the projects, but the Panipat star also received flak for not being a 'good actor'. Talking about facing criticism for his performances, Arjun, during an interview, told that he wasn't 'designed to be happy' with negative responses. He further added that he never thought of himself as a bad actor.
“I wasn’t designed to be happy about the fact that I don’t always get the best reviews in the world. I think a lot of times I get a little extra flak because of the fact that I am more internal as an actor and in our profession, a lot of externalisation is needed to project the performance. But I never feel like arre yaar main toh bahut kharab actor hoon. Because there is a very big difference between being a bad actor and being a good actor who has not done justice to what you feel,” Arjun told.

Talking about critics and reviews, Arjun said some of them aren't able to 'transcribe the value of an actor'. He also added that one must take criticism with a pinch of salt. "You have minimal words. You’re not able to sometimes maybe transcribe the value of an actor or his performance. It gets put into just adjectives. You take it with a pinch of salt. I don’t hold it against you all but at the same time, I sometimes feel the critique can be a bit toned down also because I know I am good at what I do but I don’t think I get enough due for it," Arjun said.
Workwise, Arjun was last seen in Ashutosh Gowariker's Panipat with Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt. He is currently working with Rakul Preet Singh on a cross-border rom-com.
