True to our word, yesteryear don-turned-politician Arun Gawli’s second daughter Yogita Gawli with Marathi actor Akshay Waghmare took place today. The wedding ceremony was a subdued affair keeping to the guidelines issued amid the Coronavirus lockdown. The wedding was confined within the highwalls of the fortress-like Dagdi Chawl in Saat Rasta area of Mahalaxmi. Gawli is currently housed in Central Prison for involvement in the murder of Shiv Sena councilor Kamlakar Jamsandekar in 2007.
The wedding would have been a starry affair given that Gawli had most of Bollywood paying him obeisance and was reported to extort money from producers for extending his protection. Akshay, himself is a well-known actor and would have got his own celeb friends in attendance. However, given the lockdown, the wedding was a small and intimate affair. Check out the pictures from the wedding below.
Gawli’s eldest child and three-time corporator from Agripada, Geeta Gawli told a portal that the wedding rituals were performed at the temple of the family deity, Shri Shambhunarayan, located right inside Dagdi chawl. She said, “It was strictly a family affair. Only close family members and some well-wishers were present at the occasion. The food was cooked right close to the temple and the spread was simple and traditional.”
The wedding was attended by Papa Gawli (Daddy), mother Asha, Gawli’s five children including Geeta and her husband and younger brother Mahesh’s wife were present. From the groom’s side, only Akshay’s parents were present.
