Netflix to bankroll Katrina Kaif's superhero film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar?

A while ago, reports of Katrina Kaif teaming up with her close friend Ali Abbas Zafar for their next did the rounds. The film touted to be a superhero venture is said to mark the reunion of the actress-director duo after the success of Bharat. A big-budget outing, the film is yet to be confirmed by Katrina and Ali. However, as we wait for the official announcement, rumours are surfacing that the superhero film will not get a mainstream theatrical release but an OTT opening. According to reports, Netflix has acquired the rights of the project and it will be developed into a proper web-film. The decision, it seems, was taken due to the ongoing nationwide Coronavirus lockdown. As per sources close to the development, the Katrina starrer was to be converted into a franchise, but now, it will be made into a two-part film.

“Yes, Netflix has acquired the film, and it will now be developed as a Netflix Movie. Earlier Ronnie Screwvala was producing the film under his banner, but with the Covid-19 lock downplaying havoc, the OTT platform has now taken over. Ali was always planning on making the superhero film into a franchise. But now with Netflix taking over, the film will be made in two parts,” the source told.

The plan is to appeal to the global audiences with this film,” the source added.

Speaking of Katrina and Ali, they worked together on films like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat.
