After two months of lockdown, Bollywood gears up to resume work on pending projects. The Maharashtra Government, as a part of the Unlock 1 phase, has permitted offices to reopen and allowed post-production work to restart today (June 8). As Bollywood prepares to return to work, the post-production of Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham Singh will start today. Talking about the same, producer Ronnie Lahiri during an interview with a leading daily, told that the team is taking necessary precautions stated by the government and will be working in shifts. Informing that the office is sanitised and limited staff will be present, Ronnie said the situation won't be difficult to manage. Sardar Udham Singh is directed by Shoojit Sircar.
"We are taking the requisite precautions stated by the Maharashtra government. We already have an edit suite in our office, so there will be two people working on the edit of the film which will take about 2-3 months. They will be working in shifts, and the office space will be duly sanitized. Our editors will also be taking the necessary precautions, but since there are only two people, it shouldn’t be much of a problem to manage things," Ronnie told.
Speaking of the release of Sardar Udham Singh, Ronnie said that a January 15, 2021 release seems unlikely. Stating that a lot of things need to be done, he added that the makers are yet to zero in the final release date. "We earlier had an October release, but we had then moved it to January. But I don’t think that is going to be possible now, given the situation. We have already lost over two months to this pandemic. And there is a lot of things that need to be taken into account once the actual shoot stops and the post-production work begins. The editing alone would take us about close to three months, and then we will have to talk to the visual effects team. So a January release seems unlikely. In fact, we don’t have a clear release date in mind as of now," Ronnie added.
Sardar Udham Singh stars Vicky in the titular role. The film is based on Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O' Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of Punjab, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Singh was tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940.
