T-Series issues an apology for uploading Pakistani singer Atif Aslam's 'Kinna Sona' on YouTube; pulls down song post severe backlash

Days after releasing Pakistani singer Atif Aslam's version of the song Kinna Sona on their YouTube channel, T-Series removed it and issued an apology to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) too. The song that featured for the first time in Sidharth Malhotra's and Tara Sutaria's Marjaavaan stirred up controversy amid a complete ban on Pakistani artists in India due to the political tension.

On June 23, Ameya Khopkar, the president of MNS Cinema Wing, on his official Twitter account issued a warning to T-Series to pull down the video immediately to avoid severe action against. "WARNING TO TSERIES Take down Pakistani singer Atif-Aslam song from your TSeries youtube channel immediately else we will take a major action against @TSeries. #TakeDownAtifAslamSong @itsbhushankumar @mnsadhikrut @rajupatilmanase," Ameya tweeted. Soon after, the hashtag 'Take Down Atif Aslam Song' gained ground on social media.

Issuing a prompt response to MNS, T-Series, on June 24, apologised for uploading Atif's song. In their letter, they mentioned that one of their employees from the promotion team put Kinna Sona on their YouTube page. It also stated that he was unaware of his action while doing so. The music label further assured that they won't release or promote songs by Pakistani artists on their page henceforth.

"It has been brought to our notice that the said song has been sung by Atif Aslam and this song was put up on the YouTube channel of T-Series by one of our employees from the promotion team. He was unaware of his action and erred while putting up the song. We condemn our mistake and apologise for the same. We assure you that henceforth we will neither release, nor promote the song on any platform of T-Series. Meanwhile, we are removing the said song from our YouTube channel. We also assure you that henceforth we will not be releasing or promoting work by any Pakistani artistes," the letter read.
