Saroj Khan left for her heavenly abode on July 3. The veteran Bollywood choreographer, 72, left behind an unmatched legacy with numerous chartbusters with leading actresses including Madhuri Dixit. Along with Madhuri, who was her favourite 'student', Masterji delivered classics like Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, Ek Do Teen among several others. However, out of all, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas had different magic altogether. Today, as the film completed 18 years, Madhuri, on Instagram, recalled working with Masterji on the song Maar Daala.
In an emotional post, Madhuri reminisced how Masterji pushed her ahead to pull off complicated dance steps. "Shooting any song with Saroj ji was as great as ever. Devdas was a very special film, as all the songs in this film were very grand. I had never done a song like this with her. We did a lot of Indian songs, but not such classical dance and Saroj ji was a semi-classical dancer. She used to say, 'It's a little Kathak style, take care'. She is not with us today, but these are the things that I will always remember. We worked very hard on all songs of Devdas. We used to shoot all night, from 7 in the evening till morning. Whenever I worked with Saroj ji, we never thought how easy the steps can be, but always stressed how difficult we can make it. There are were moments that tough to execute, for example, the step where I had to rotate on my knee. But I always used to slip while practicing that. We were very excited about this song," Madhuri wrote.
Masterji choreographed numerous chartbuster songs for Madhuri including Chane Ke Khet Mein, Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, Choli Ke Peeche, Tamma Tamma Loge, Hum Ko Aaj Kal Hai, Dola Re Dola, Ek Do Teen among others. Their last collaboration was for Kalank's Tabaah Ho Gaye.
