Luv Ranjan's Pyaar Ka Punchnama released in 2011 and went on to become one of the most popular films amongst youngsters. Its sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 released in 2015 and received a great response as well. For the past 2 years, rumours have been rife about a third installment of the film that starred Kartik Aaryan, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Sunny Singh among others. Now, co-producer Abhishek Pathak opened up about the plans of making the third part and said it may take a year or two as the team is still in search of the right script.
Abhishek said, “It’s the youth franchise that people are looking forward to. It was a series that became a success without a star in it. Kartik and Nushrat were fairly new to the business at that time. So, yes, there is a demand but there is no point in making the third film in the series without a script as good as the first two parts. Both Luv and I have been talking about doing this but we also don’t want to spoil the name of the franchise by doing something for the heck of it. Having said that, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 3 might happen in a year or two. We have not been able to crack the idea, but we have been talking about it.”
Recalling how Pyaar Ka Punchnama found its feet, Abhishek said, “As a filmmaker, I always ask for a two-minute narration, which should be like a trailer of the actual film. When someone approaches me, I want them to sell to me what they will sell to the audience eventually through a teaser. I remember Luv had narrated only the first 10 pages of Pyaar Ka Punchnama and the characters got me going. While Pyaar Ka Punchnama did decent business in cinemas, it got its eventual love from the audience through a completely different route. People somehow saw it and it was strong word-of-mouth that actually got us the chance to make part two. If I was strictly looking at the box office, who knows...I may never have thought of part two. And now that the audience has accepted the franchise, there is no need for us to disappoint them by hurriedly making part three.”
