Abhay Deol, who has been actively talking about several issues pertaining to the film industry, has spoken about the blind items and how it could badly affect someone's 'mind or career'. “Future generations should know what it entails to be in this industry,” the actor told an entertainment website in an interview. Abhay has been speaking about various issues recently, and has said that ‘for too long, certain people’s careers have been cut short, just because they didn’t pander to someone, or they threatened somebody’s positions’.
The actor also spoke about the blind item culture that has been going on in Bollywood for several years now. He said that while he is fine with things being written about him, as he has ‘grown up around fame’ and knows that ‘what’s news today will be old news tomorrow’, for others who might be more sensitive to such rumour-mongering, it could be very disheartening.
Calling out a renowned critic, Abhay said, “I mean, there’s no journalistic integrity in that so I find the hypocrisy a little jarring. Until we don’t call out these people, they’re going to continue writing what they did. The difference between the actors and them is that we’ll call you out by your name and they will just hide behind the garb of ‘rumour has it’ and then just give you blatant hints to who it is."
Elaborating on the outsiders’ struggle with the blind items, he mentioned, “When he (critic) gives hints that are pretty obvious as to who he is talking about, it will affect somebody’s mind. I’m fine with it, it doesn’t make a difference to me; I have not come up with anybody’s help. But someone who has come from the outside, if someone has a mental health issue or is more sensitive, it’s harder for them. I’ve grown up around fame so I know what’s news today will be old news tomorrow. But, I don’t expect everybody to have that knowledge or their approach. Because you can handle someone like KRK saying it since no one takes him seriously, but people do take Rajeev (Masand) seriously. When he writes things like these, it could have an impact on somebody’s mind and also on their career.”
Abhay was recently seen in SONYLIV's series JL50.
