PeepingMoon.com exclusively reported that Randeep Hooda underwent a scheduled knee surgery a few days back. Although the surgery was an elective one not much was known about the injury sustained by Randeep and his hospitalization left his fans worried. Expressing gratitude towards all the people who wished him a speedy recovery, Randeep opened up about the surgery and said that it became a necessity as his leg had got infected.
He told a leading daily, “12 years ago in 2008, I met with a major accident on the polo field. My horse Raja, who has passed away now, slipped and fell on my right leg. It was my mistake. I stretched out a bit too much to get to the ball, forgetting the fact that the horse is old. After he got up and my leg was still stuck, he kept looking at me wondering if I was okay. I remember his face so well. I could hardly breathe and he kept thinking if I was fine. Any other horse would have bolted and that could have killed me but he stood still. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been alive. Raja taught me how to play Polo.”
He further added, “After the accident, I had metal plates and screws inserted to hold the bones together, heal the leg and bring it back to life. I was bedridden for a long time and all my projects evaporated during that time. I was supposed to take these plates out in a year but either I didn’t have the money, or didn’t have the time. After living with the metal plates for 12 years, which is perhaps my longest relationship in the physical sense, I had to get them removed because the leg got infected. The foreign body got sick of me. The surgery became a necessity. I don’t know if I will be the same actor once I go back to the movie set!”
Randeep said the surgery would have been delayed if the pain had not gotten worse. He said, “When it doesn’t hurt you, you think it’s fine to delay the surgery. In all these years, my leg would pain occasionally, especially if it was hit by something but painkillers would keep the pain at bay. Two years ago, while rehearsing the action scenes for Extraction, the leg got infected. A lot of movie action was done by me on painkillers. I didn’t want to tell anyone because people get too careful around you. I decided to have an elective surgery to end the trauma once and for all. Also there was no shooting because of Covid-19; I didn’t have to be physically present anywhere so I thought this was a good time to go for it. I went to the hospital early in the morning and the operation was scheduled for the same day. The surgery also helped me get rid of some of the backache that I have been carrying for 12 years. That’s the history of my injury. I have got a good phase of action movies coming up. I also wanted to be fit for that and look after my body more. I didn’t want the pain to resurrect.”
He gave a health update and well and said, “My leg is healing, there’s no post operative complication. I’ll be able to move around properly in a week’s time. My dad (Ranbir Hooda), who’s a doctor, was there during my operation and took care of everything. I was at the hospital for a few days until my orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chetan Unadkat, thought I was fine enough to be discharged.”
