Deepika Padukone started her journey in Bollywood with Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om. The film that proved to be a commercial success, saw the actress with none other than Bollywood's superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Om Shanti Om, even after 13 years of release, remains to be a favourite pick and a memorable one delivered by the blockbuster on-screen pair. Deepika, who is now one of India's leading actresses, in the Sunday episode of National Geographic’s Mega Icons Season 2, recalled her first meeting with Shah Rukh. The 34-year-old actress said she couldn't believe that she was starring opposite Shah Rukh, whom she had seen only in 'Yash Chopra films'. She further added that for the first meeting, she bought a white salwar kameez and left her hair open just because she felt that's how she should be looking.
"I was blown away by the fact that I was even meeting Farah Khan. The first time she called me I was like, 'this can't be true and maybe someone is playing a prank on me'. I don't think I realised the intensity and gravity of it at that point. Then I remember the first time I had to actually go and meet Shah Rukh. I had seen him in all these Yash Chopra films so I was like 'I have to go with my hair open, straight and have to wear a white salwar kameez'. I went and bought a white salwar kameez because I thought that is how I should look. He had white sofas and I was sitting on the edge of the seat with back straight. He walked out and I remember just being so comfortable with him," Deepika told.
After Om Shanti Om, Deepika and Shah Rukh reunited for Chennai Express and Happy New Year. The actress did cameos in his films like Billu and Zero. According to PeepingMoon sources, she is expected to join Shah Rukh and John Abraham in Yash Raj Films' Pathan.
