Shah Rukh Khan, after an extended break from films, is reportedly returning to the sets with Siddharth Anand's actioner Pathan. The superstar who recently celebrated his 55th birthday in Dubai, was last seen in Aanand L. Rai's Zero in 2018 and shifted his focus to producing shows and films for the web. Now, making the wait worth, Shah Rukh, reportedly, has three films in the lineup. Apart from Pathan, Shah Rukh will be playing the lead in Rajkumar Hirani's social drama based on immigration and South director Atlee Kumar's next directorial.
As Shah Rukh is yet to announce these films formally, a leading daily's report has it that the actor's next film after Pathan will begin in August next year. A source close told the daily that the film could either be with Atlee or Hirani. "While Atlee’s film seems to be in the forefront right now, he has his heart set on Hirani’s social drama, as it will be a breather between two action-packed films. But Hirani takes his time to complete a script and a clear picture will only emerge by mid-2021," the source told.

The source further added that Shah Rukh will be flying Atlee's team to Mumbai in December and that's when they will lock the cast, script and scout for locations. Reportedly, Atlee will be setting up his office in Mumbai to avoid travelling from Chennai to Mumbai every month amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "Atlee has been developing the script remotely with a team of Karan Johar, who is co-producing the film with SRK. He will be in the city from December for narrations, to lock the cast, scout for locations and get his technical team in place," the source added.
