After eight months, the Maharashtra Government permitted theatres to reopen, but only with 50% capacity. As cinema halls are reeling from the COVID lockdown setback, the film industry is hoping the situation will return to normalcy soon. Now, with many states reopening theatres, filmmakers are reworking the schedules of their films. According to a leading daily's report, makers of the upcoming rom-com Bunty Aur Babli 2 are planning to release the film in theatres this Christmas. The film stars Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari.
A source close to the development told the daily that since Ranveer Singh's '83 has been pushed ahead, the team of the Varun V. Sharma directorial feel a Christmas release will be ideal. However, they are yet to arrive at a decision. "With theatres expected to be up and running, filmmakers have begun zeroing in on release windows for their movies. Considering Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a light-hearted con caper, the makers feel it would be an ideal festival outing. The Christmas window is empty after the team of Ranveer Singh's 83 decided to push its release to 2021. However, the talks are at a nascent stage. They will arrive at a decision in the coming weeks," the source told.
Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a sequel to the 2005 film of the same name. The original film starred Rani with Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. Bunty Aur Babli 2 is produced by Yash Raj Films. It is Siddhant's second film after Gully Boy and Sharvari's first Bollywood film. She made her acting debut with Kabir Khan's web series The Forgotten Army.
