Abhishek Sharma's Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari starring Manoj Bajpayee, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Diljit Dosanjh became the first Bollywood film to release in theatres after the lockdown was imposed in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The family entertainer released on November 15 and days later, the makers hosted a special screening for police and BMC officials. Last evening, around 159 people attended Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari's special screening. Director Abhishek greeted the guests and also watched the film with them. Reportedly, Fatima was to join them, but couldn't due to unavoidable circumstances.
Talking to a leading daily, Gautam Dutta, CEO of PVR Cinemas, told, "Yes, and this show was a part of our goodwill for the Corona warriors. We also got Zee involved. This show was FOC (free of cost) from Zee." As source from Zee said, "It was a very emotional moment and it was fitting to have these people, as this is the first film after the havoc that COVID-19 has caused."
According to the daily's report, Assistant Commissioner of BMC, K-Ward Vishwas Mote and a senior cop spoke to the COVID warriors and praised them for the work during the pandemic.
On November 17, Aamir Khan and his daughter Ira Khan watched Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari in theatres.
Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari opened to mixed reviews and saw a low footfall in theatres in the first few days.
