A few days ago, actor Akshay Oberoi confirmed that his friend Imran Khan has quit acting and is focusing on his career as a director. This news came across as a major shock to fans of the actor who impressed all with his acting chops in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008). Since then, Imran's decision has become the talk of the town. While the actor, who is the nephew of Aamir Khan, is yet to issue an official statement, his father-in-law Ranjev Malik spoke to a leading daily about the same.
Ranjev, the father of Imran's wife Avantika Malik, told that the Delhi Belly actor always wanted to pursue direction over acting. "Honestly, it's Imran's personal decision and it's not my domain either. But yes, Imran was always inclined towards direction right from the days he went to a film school. And well, he's working on it and will make it happen," he told.
A few months ago, reports of Imran and Avantika's strained relationship did the rounds. According to the daily, one of the issues between them was that Avantika wanted Imran to pursue acting when he decided to quit. Reportedly, she wanted him to push a little more as an actor. However, Imran was reportedly firm on his decision to sign films only if the roles were terrific. Reacting to the same, Ranjev said, "Yes, I guess, she did."
Imran's last film as an actor was Katti Batti co-starring Kangana Ranaut. The film was a box office debacle. As a director, he did a short film titled Mission Mars: Keep Walking India.
