In August 2020, superstar Prabhas was announced as Prabhu Ram in Om Raut's pan-India film Adipurush. While Saif Ali Khan will play the role of Lankesh in the film, Sita's spot still seems to be unconfirmed. However, now according to a leading lady, Kriti Sanon has been roped in as Prabhu Ram Prabhas' Sita in the film. Earlier, names like Keerthy Suresh, Anushka Sharma and Kiara Advani had cropped up for the role of Sita.
"After considering several top names, from both the Hindi and Telugu industries, they decided on Kriti. She will play the character with grace and dignity,” revealed a source close to the development adding that the film will go on the floors in January next year with a start-to-finish schedule. “It will mostly be shot in the studio against a chroma screen. Om and Bhushan have been talking to VFX technicians of international repute, who have worked on films like Avatar and Star Wars, to make the shooting process smooth and mount the film on a certain scale.”

Kriti is currently shooting for Hum Do Hamare Do along with Rajkummar Rao in Chandigarh. After wrapping it up, she moves on to the Akshay Kumar-fronted Bachchan Pandey from January. The actress, reportedly, also has a horror-comedy, Bhediya, alongside Varun Dhawan in her kitty, and is in talks for two more films, to begin sometime next year. “Playing Sita is an opportunity of a lifetime for her, and she immediately came on board. She will be juggling multiple films in the first quarter of 2021,” the source signed off.
Having grown up on tales rooted in Indian history and mythology, Bhushan Kumar was excited to bring an epic to the big screen. He had told earlier “My father, Gulshan Kumar, was a devotee of Shiva, Ram and Mata Rani and for me, this is a way of carrying his dream forward.”
