2020 has been unkind to the entire world. The year took away some renowned personalities like Irrfan, Rishi Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Saroj Khan, Wajid Khan among many others. Before the end could end, we lost another soul. Oscar and Grammy winner AR Rahman's mother Kareema Begum passed away in Chennai.
The music composer, on Twitter, shared a picture of his mother without any text. According to reports, Kareema Begum wasn't keeping well for quite some time and breathed her last due to health issues. Salim Merchant commented on AR Rahman's post and offered condolence. He wrote, "Very sorry for your loss AR. We pray that Amma gets Jannat-Ul-firdaus." Shekhar Kapur tweeted, "Your heart is broken, I know. But your mother left you with an inner strength , an inner resilience and belief .. that I have seen and admired for long. Stay strong, my friend."

AR Rahman was closely-knit with his mother. She raised him single-handedly after the music composer's father RK Shekhar passed away when he was 9. RK Shekhar was a music composer himself and worked mainly for Malayalam films.
In May last year, Rahman shared a throwback picture with his mother and his daughters Khateeja and Raheema.
The funeral will take place today.
