Parineeti Chopra-fronted The Girl On The Train is heading for a digital release next month. The Ribhu Dasgupta film co-starring Aditi Rao Hydari, Kirti Kulhari and Avinash Tiwary will release on Netflix on February 26. Now, with a month left for its premiere, rumour has it that another film of Parineeti is being considered for an OTT release. According to a leading daily's report, Saina Nehwal's biopic might go digital.
A source close to the development told the daily, "Saina was slated to hit theatres last summer, but the plans came to a halt because of the pandemic. Now, the makers have again begun discussions about its release. Considering theatres are functioning at 50 per cent occupancy, they are considering an OTT release. A final call has yet to be taken."
However, Shubhrajyoti Barat, who plays Saina's father Harvir Singh Nehwal in the film, told the daily, "The video-streaming platforms are an effective option. That said, these decisions are best left to the producers. The film may release in the next few months. Personally, I would love to see Saina in theatres."
Saina is directed by Amole Gupte and is being produced by T-series. The film stars Manav Kaul as Saina's coach, Pullela Gopichand.
