Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have teamed up for the upcoming film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and naturally, the anticipation is soaring high every single day. The film based on a brothel madam went on floors in 2020 and was scheduled to release on September 11 last year. Due to COVID-19, the schedule went for a toss. The shoot resumed after the lockdown was lifted and now, it is reported that Alia has completed her talkie portions. According to a leading daily, the actress has to film two dance numbers before wrapping the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. A source close to the development told that the shoot will take place around mid-February.
"Alia has been given a fortnight’s break; she is utilising the time to rehearse for the two tracks. One of them is a typical Bhansali number, envisioned on a lavish scale, complete with 200 background dancers. The unit had filmed a song last year before the lockdown was imposed. On resuming work in October, Sanjay sir decided to finish the sequences before he could turn his attention to the song-and-dance routines," the source told.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a brothel madam from the red light area, Kamathipura in Mumbai. Gangubai is believed to have been pushed into prostitution at a very young age and became the most influential pimp, having served several renowned criminals from the city. Directed and co-produced by Sanjay, the film reportedly features Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in important roles.
