Veteran writer-director Sagar Sarhadi passes away; Hansal Mehta, Javed Akhtar, Jackie Shroff offer condolences

Veteran filmmaker and writer, Sagar Sarhadi, breathed his last due to a heart attack today. He was 88 years old. Sarhadi started his journey as a story writer and became an Urdu playwright before entering Bollywood with late Yash Chopra's Kabhi Kabhie in 1976. He also wrote dialogues for films like NoorieChandniSilsila and others. He made his directorial debut with the film Bazaar in 1982 starring Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Smita Patil and Supriya Pathak in key roles.

Soon after the news of his demise broke, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha offered condolence and tweeted, "RIP Sagar Sarhadi. What a legacy." Hansal Mehta said, "Rest in peace Sagar Sarhadi saahab." Film producer and director Nila Madhab Panda wrote, "Sad to know that Sagar Sarhadi ji is no more. Truly a big loss for the film industry. 'Noorie', 'Kabhi Kabhie', 'Silsila', 'Chandni', 'Deewana', 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' writer of so many gems. He also wrote and directed the iconic ' Bazaar'. My heartfelt condolences."
