Today, the Maharashtra Government announced a night curfew in the state along with a strict weekend lockdown from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am. The decision was taken in the wake of an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks. The new restrictions will come into effect from Monday, April 5, 2021.
According to reports, there will be a ban on a ban on gatherings of five or more throughout the day. Public places like malls, restaurants and bars will remain closed. However, home delivery and essential services will be permitted. Industrial operations and construction activity will be allowed. New rules to control the crowd in vegetable markets will be introduced. Film shoots in the state will be permitted, however, with no crowds. Theatres will remain closed. All facilities except essential services will be shut on weekends. No new restrictions on traffic, but public transport will operate at 50% capacity.
The decision to impose a night curfew and weekend lockdown came after Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, held a cabinet meeting to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state. On Friday, the CM addressed the public about the COVID-19 second wave.
