Actress turned politician Jaya Bachchan headed to Kolkata on Sunday evening to campaign for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during the ongoing Bengal Assembly election. Mrs. Bachchan will reportedly campaign for TMC's Tollygunge candidate and MLA Arup Biswas who is pitted against BJP's Union Minister Babul Supriyo.
The member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party, who is known as the daughter of Bengal, has scheduled programmes from April 5 to 8. Called the star campaigner, Mrs. Bachchan's presence is expected to reinstate Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s slogan- Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye (Bengal Wants Its Own Daughter).

According to reports, Mrs. Bachchan, who was born as Jaya Bhaduri to a Bengali family residing in Jabalpur, is expected to share the stage with Ms. Banerjee during her stay in Kolkata. The Padma Shri recipient will also be a part of a roadshow with Mr. Biswas to reach out to the masses in the South Kolkata constituency. She will also campaign for other candidates.
